The Work of the Newman Consort
Comprising singers from the University of Oxford and further afield, the Consort seeks to bring together some of the area's finest young musicians to enhance the liturgy and to unlock the treasures of the Catholic sacred music repertoire. We currently provide music for the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham in Oxford every Saturday evening.
In addition, we have sung regularly at St William of York, working closely with the clergy of the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter there. We have also sung at St Birinus, Dorchester, St Patrick, Soho Square, SS Gregory and Augustine, Blessed Dominic Barberi, and St Aloysius, Oxford. Among the liturgical services at which we have sung are: Mass (Ordinary Form and Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite), Solemn Evensong and Benediction (Ordinariate Use and Book of Divine Worship), Solemn Terce, Nine Lessons and Carols, Rite of Ordination, and Readings and Music for Passiontide.
The Ordinariate Mission in Oxford offers termly choral scholarships to students in order to maintain our regular supply of singers. The scholarships support their development as musicians, and offer the opportunity to sing a wide range of music in an intimate group, in the liturgical context for which it was composed.
If you are interested in sponsoring a scholar - either for a term or a year - please contact Alex Lloyd at firstname.lastname@example.org.
